In India ah.

Here's one of the people who knew me when I was very young and I'm sure she has some stories that she'll keep to herself...

I love this picture,  taken at the very start of a very special holiday. A visit to India to attend my big sisters wedding blessing.    These shoes have seen some action and heard an immense amount of laughter.  My daughter's beach feet, with a gypsy twist.

(Is that a bra on the floor, Fiona?)

well,  now i'm just showing off.  Not my beautifully pedicured toenails, that's for sure. Alas, if someone approached me with a pumice stone and a pair of nailclippers - I may kill!  No no,  my gorgeous Olympus underwater camera.  Taken at the bottom of our hotel pool in Goa where my daughter had HOURS of fun (and I had hours of peace).  Amazing holiday,  gorgeous daughter,  beautiful country, shoddy toenail polish. oh well.

Stamping Through National Parks

on a recent road trip from southern california to central oregon, i decided to pick up a couple of national parks passport stamps at sequoia & kings canyon national parks. before even entering the parks the landscape began to change, as i traded the barren california highway scenery for trees, trees, and more trees. there is just something about mountains and forests, isn’t there? fresh air is the perfect remedy for stress relief.

at every stop i made in the park, i was met with the most delightful smells. i don't know if clean air really has a smell but if it does, this would be it.
i stopped at the sentinel tree and the general sherman tree (the largest redwood in the world, by volume), but my favorite stop was an unexpected one. upon crossing over a lovely stone bridge, i noticed a group of people playing in the water below. i just couldn't resist, so i hiked down in my skirt and flip flops (perhaps not the best choice for the day), and did a little wading. i was surprised at how perfect the water temperature was - cool enough to be refreshing, but not so cold as to curl your toes. it was a wonderful break from the drive.

The fish spoke to me.

I believe we make our own luck but that doesn't stop me wishing on stars, eyelashes, birthday candles and other lucky wishing things. Coi fish symbolise courage, determination and overcoming struggles. Finding this pond of coi was lucky for me. It reminded me I need to work harder to overcome my own struggles.

I'm determined to make the most of life. I make my own luck.

Happy BirthWeek Jasmine!

This post is inspired by this post and dedicated to Jasi Love.
One summer day a couple of years ago I got a phone call from my friend Kirsten.
"Hey, do you want to go toe-fishing?"
"Um yes... what does that mean?"
"You know fishing like Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn."
"No, not really."
"You do know! We tie fishing line around our toes and lie back on the dock and catch fish."
"Um. Ok."

We didn't have fishing line so we used wool.
We didn't have fish hooks so we used paperclips.
We didn't have bait so we used Ritz Crackers.

We didn't catch anything but we did laugh and laugh and the people watching us laughed too.
If we did by some miracle catch something I don't know what we would have done with it.

I don't even like fish.

I spy with my little eye...

I don't have a drivers license. That means my adventures can be quite limited and not very spur of the moment. Husband works disgusting hours which means after work he's in no mood for driving or walking or moving.

If I'm lucky and he has a Saturday off he sometimes surprises me with an adventure he's been planning all week. I love to see things. I'm the kid with her face pressed against the glass on a road trip. Trying to see everything. Always pointing to things we pass for husband to look at who always very kindly reminds me that he can look - which he would love to do - and we can die OR he can keep his eyes on the road and we can live. Even if I chose the first option it's too late because of his scripted answer. Life is good though.

Last Saturday he planned a trip to somewhere neither of us had been before. The Arboretum. The day was perfectly sunny. The flowers were beautiful. My hand holding partner was happy. I was happy. The water feature only added to my delight.

Who is your adventure partner? What's the best unplanned adventure you've been on? Is there a place you've been meaning to visit but haven't found time? - I challenge you to go! And send us a picture ;)

Be a little boulder

"This picture was taken at Boulder Falls in Boulder, CO last July.  We had been hiking and then sat down to dip our toes in the water.  The feet in the picutre belong to my hubby, son and niece."

"My feet... they take me wherever I go."

"Everywhere I go, I take pictures of my feet. I thought people would think that I was weird, but then I saw your blog and I knew that I was just normal." — Breanne

It's not true, Breanne. You're more than just normal. You're one of us now!

Hobbies and Dreams.

I have a dream. I've had it since I was small. I'm not much bigger now, but I have years.

I always wanted to be, and still want to be an Olympic Swimmer.

I still have the dream.
