Goodbye July

Dear July,

You were ok. I would just like to August to be better and quite frankly, it shouldn't be too hard. You kind of tortured me this year. It's possible you'll be my favourite next year though. I'll always have high hopes for you, July. Just don't get sassy again. It isn't cute.

Love,
Laura xx

The Lady of the House:

I've told you about my mum before and how she taught me my Gypsying ways. She also instilled in me my love of photography, sunshine and handmade accessories. She's a knitting machine and has been since she was 3 years old. She taught me to knit and I can, about 23 times slower than she does and certainly not with my eyes closed like she does.

Visit here to enter her first giveaway.

Tell me something wonderful about your mother.

Check out my flip-flop tan lines.

So, I'm compiling a list of places to vacation in my lifetime. Any suggestions?

Pioneer children sang as they walked and walked and walked and walked and walked...

"Hello,
I thought I'd drop two photos of my dad's feet by for you to take a gander at. He is a teacher and a wagon master.
Each year he takes his 30 or so eighth grade students on a week long wagon adventure in Nevada and California.
He recently tightened the rims on his wagon wheels, which is when I took these photos. It's sort of like resoling a boot, but hotter and terrifying if it goes wrong.
The top picture I took while he cut wood to use to heat up the wagon wheel rims. The second is of him playing the wood just so, so that the metal heats up evenly.
I believe these have been my dad's work boots since before I was born(23 years ago). He gets them resoled or patched every year or two. I just love how much they tell about his life and his standards."

Computer Trouble Wednesday. [ Vikki ]

I've had computer trouble since Friday last week.

The apple mac, 17inch mac daddy, that is my fifth appendage has been out of service since around that time too.

I'm currently on an old PC, sharing my patient electronic geek feet with you.

The laptop is currently hooked up as another drive to my old G4 tower mac (which I was meant to sell to someone last week - thank goodness I didn't) which is running a data recovery programme in an attempt to get my design work, photographs, and everything else I ever added to that laptop in the past year.

This is day three of active attempts and I'm hopeful that by tomorrow morning all will be well. We'll see though.

Hopefully next wednesday will be a little more picturesque and entertaining.

My advice... backup. Everyone says it. No one does it until something file-tragic happens to them.

And on a practical note:

Hey,
I thought i would send you a picture of my second ingrown surgery!
For those who have had one should know that if it gets this bad...

it was pretty gruesome!

I hate em.
I have had 2 surgerys now, on the same toe.
Take care of your toes and you won't have to be stuck with a big fat numb toe. :)
It's not fun. Even though it's a cute color!
love,
peri

p.s i'm afraid i have two more on my right toe.

Peri is one of my new favorite bloggers. Go check her out.
I hope your tootsies get better soon, Peri. -Laura

Feet on my dashboard

Once it would take forty-five days to travel 1000 miles. By foot.

Now it takes about 16 hours. In a car.

Or 2 and 1/2 hours. Via plane.
I wonder what we've lost in experience when we gained the extra time.

That whole "getting there is half the fun" thing... Are we missing out on half the fun?

Not that I think walking for days and days would be a total picnic. I just wonder what sort of bonding experience it would be with the comrades of the journey.

I'm sort-of glad that we can't afford to fly anywhere. My husband and I have the best conversations when we drive. We sing far too loudly. We eat all the junk we usually avoid. And when we arrive at our destination I love him more for every hour we spent.

Anyway, just a thought.

I'm like a babbling brooke... babbling.

July 4th 2008,
Marysville, WA

I couldn't think of what to post seeing as I haven't taken a picture recently (and because the site make-over is driving me batty!) but I wanted to share:

When I email people to let them know we used the picture they submitted I say something like "we featured you". I have to fight against myself to actually use the word "featured" because to me it is far too hilariously punny. I fight even harder not to spell it like this - Feetured.

I am ridiculous.

Just know that when you send a picture to us and I post it you've made my day and I've spent probably 7 minutes laughing out loud typing the word "featured".

Also,

It tickles me pink when I run across this. People featuring us on their sites! I love it.

The Naked Feet Part Two. [Vikki]

Two weeks ago today I posted my introduction blog that showed my naked feet and gave you the naked truth.

Little did I know that mere hours after that post I would have to change number six which read:

6. I have a fantastic boyfriend who sadly lives in Salt Lake, or soon to be California... and long distance is terrible.

to

6. I have a fantastic fiance who sadly lives in Salt Lake, or soon to be California... and long distance is terrible.

That's right... on the 1st of July my American boy asked me to marry him via the most creative amazing proposal ever. He'd actually been planning and making it for over 3.5 months.

He constructed and made super grover and elmo, and then made a movie trailer featuring him in it. He set up the entire night to revolve around watching this movie, and proposed in reality after staging a performance that involved the TV and left me confused about what reality and fantasy are.

I, of course, said yes, and wear my Lego ring with pride. He insists that it's only temporary but I honestly love my lego ring so much.

Sorry to keep you all waiting a week to find out, I had to tell my Mother – to her face – first. I've still not told everyone though, but it's soon going to be hard to keep it in the bag.

The sad end of the tale is that a mere 4 days after getting engaged I left him for an unknown amount of time. Terrible. But it's easier knowing that, with time, I will be with him forever.

My sisters, by Megan Marie

The other day we went on a hike together.
We talked about what it means to have sisters close when our families are far from us.

I hope always to have dynamic women in my life, to laugh with me, and maybe cry a little.

PS, I usually post on Mondays, but we've just had a beastly internet outage! It feels good to be back! I have turned into such an internet junkie!

Sun Chasing with Vikki.

So, seven days ago I posted my naked feet and my naked truth. Hours after that post something magical, spectacular and wonderful happened. However, I can't reveal what it is until next Wednesday. Oh, I'm such a tease :)

More recently, as recent as last night, or this morning, or Tuesday or Monday or Sunday, I chased the sun 5000 miles around the world.

It started late on Sunday night. I chased it from Salt Lake City to New York City and caught up with it only momentarily before I started to loose it again on Tuesday evening. I then chased it all the way to Dublin, Ireland. And then I found it, this morning, in a rich golden burning light. Beautiful, magical, celestial, positioned right around the location of Scotland in relation to Ireland and the Irish sea. Possibly one of the most positive affirming sights i've ever seen.

In short. I'm home. I'm jet lagged, I'm miserable, and it's oh so cold here. But every now and then life is just so utterly beautiful that everything else slips away.

and a better shot of the sunrise. Photographs do it no justice.

Peter Pan dreams, by Megan Marie

Is there a difference between "growing up" and "growing old"?
I think so.

I am excited to grow old with grace. I watch women who have passed through the different stages of life to become true angels. This appeals to me.

I am not, however, fond of the idea of growing up. If that makes any sense at all. I cannot picture myself with the stern expressions of my Grandmother. I could never turn up my nose to tree-climbing or sneaking into abandoned buildings.
Today I brought home a stray, very pregnant cat. My Grandmother would have gasped in horror. My husband sighed, but he let me take her in.

A look at Laura...

I music. Some lyrics are like scripture to me.

This is the furthest I've been from home.

When I eat pizza I eat the bone AKA crust first.

Lemonade gives me heartburn.

I get scared easily but I'm good at pretending I'm not.

I don't have a drivers license.

I love/hate that excited/anxious feeling I get when I'm traveling.

If I judge a book by it's cover I don't feel like I'm allowed to read it.

Pink is my favourite colour.

Getting post/mail is my most favourite thing.

I the smell outside when someone's using the tumble drier.

I use Tweetdeck to Twitter from. (@pinkmilk)

I'm a Charlie & Lola fan.

Megan made me realise how much I taking pictures.
Vikki reminds me of how much I to travel.
Liam reminds me how much I achieving goals and seeing other achieve theirs.

Have a happy and safe 4th of July weekend!

"In the long run we have found silent films are full of sound..."

The perfect Sunday evening activity for two twenty-something-year olds.
The chalks were a gift to help me score one more thing off my summer list.
My first time chalking a pavement turned out to be one of the most relaxing activities ever.

I recommend it.
