What's the first pair of shoes you ever remember wearing?

One short year and ten perfect little piggies later...

"I was pregnant with our first child when we took a trip to the coast of Oregon. I had to document our first trip to the beach with a photo of our toes! Little did I know 1 year later we would be on the beach again in Texas. This time we had 10 little toes joining ours...it was wonderful! "

Cold feet, warm heart.

My feet have always been colder than the rest of my body which is fine. It's not so fine for my husband who is always toasty warm. When we crawl into bed I like to sprawl all over him and rub my icey feet against his tisty toasty legs. If I get too hot I stick my feet out of the blanket and I feel better. Then I pull them back in and start the warming process all over again.

On Monday he bought me a pair of slippers.

Geocaching fashion...

"We went geocaching one day and my daughter was tired of wearing her
sneakers. I didn't know she had changed to her flip flops until we were
well into the woods."

Life is rarely dull around here.
Yesterday I had my fill of brightness, laughter and adorable shoes on another photoshoot.

Cup o' frost bite.

We had a tea party last week. It began with 2 cars, 4 girls and two sleepy little boys setting out on an adventure - after having a quick dance party in the carpark, ofcourse. Cars were packed with funky orange chairs, a table, cookies, girls with big flowers on their heads and Mika

We ended up up to our knees in snow and we stayed that way for 4-ish hilariously quirky hours. This picture was taken at the beginning of the tea party photoshoot, before Megan's pinky toes turned into ice and began dislocating themselves to the outside of her shoe. It was a horrific sight but honestly she looked great, we all did!

What's a little frostbite for the sake of awesomeness?

It all ended with a little tea party team work...

young feet

When I was in high school, if I had been able to comprehend the things about myself that I know now, I think I would have hated it there. I'm thankful for my once limited view of things because I was with my own kind, and I enjoyed it. These are my young feet, when I thought I was developing a love for photography, but I was actually learning to love me.

Puppy Love

"Here is a picture of me and my dog Britty on the beach in Oregon. It was taken the summer before he died. We got him when I was 16 and he lived until I was 26. I still miss him." — Nichole

Kristie-Love.

"I think my daughter Kristie just might have the cutest feet on the planet. I can't get over how precious they are! And the fun thing is, they haven't grown much since she was a newborn. They've really just gotten chubbier and are still so small. Also, I recently discovered that Kristie and I have the SAME exact pinky toe! Crazy, you might say. But both our pinky toes hide halfway behind the next toe up...thus covering up part of the toe nail. So the nail bends a little bit, and is thicker than the rest. Sounds weird, but I find it fascinatingly cute! I absolutely can't wait 'til her toe nails are big enough to paint them bright pink like mine."

-Candace

Cutsie Tootsies

"This photo is of my daughter. Oh my daughter! She is incredible and oh so charming with her chubby cheeks and cute little feet. I feel honored to be her mom and can't wait to thank her when she gets older. I have to thank her for changing my life. Her and her brother. I still can't believe she's mine. How grateful I am for her and for the love she gives. And for giving me a reason to buy such cute little shoes."

-Bonnie

Miss Sassy Shoes

"When my friends and I went to a little black dress party last summer. Of course lots of goofy pictures resulted. Including this one of our amazing shoes! I was the one who decided I would not be dull and wore the leopard print/red ones!"

-Miss Jordi

Ladies in Red

Hello, Gypsy Feet!
I found you by way of C Jane, and had such fun scrolling through all the great feets and their stories! (Feet say so much about a person, don't you think?) And then I thought of this picture I'm sending, which is a favorite of me and my daughter Natalie, who is 4 and loves to do everything just like Mama. So of course I paint her toes red just like mine. I hope you like it!

Double the feet, double the dirt...

"There's nothing better than the joys of childhood. After having so many girls, discovering twin boys were on the way was cause for a "What will I do?" moment. They've been a blessing. I love their "little boy" scent after a few hours playing outside. They sure can get messy as testified by this photograph taken by my daughter. Little toddler feet are the cutest. "

"You can sit beside me when the world comes down..."

Next month will mark 5 years of wandering on American soil for me. When I think about that it makes my head a bit fuzzy. I never really thought I'd be this far from home. But now I have been for almost a 5th of my life. So weird.

I came from a small town on the east coast of Scotland to just outside of the grand city of Seattle and then on to a little dusty town in Idaho.

I've collected memories and new words along the way. Put on a few pounds and have a husband who 'loves every inch of me'. I've seen things and been places my parents have never been. The time for living off of the parental unit's experiences and rules is long gone. They made me into who I am now: adventurous, quirky, shy, bright, funny, sensitive and artistic and set me on my way. They're still on their journey but now they don't have to hold my hand - as much as I'd love that. I'm learning to walk on my own and to balance on someone elses (usually) steady arm and to give support in return.

When Mr. A and I started this journey together we expected to have certain things that are obviously missing from our marriage right now. We had a plan but the Big Man Upstairs has different ideas and we're learning to enjoy the detour.

The two pairs of feet in our house - and the umpteen pairs of shoes at the front door - are happy. What more do we need?

Where do you think you'll be in 5 years? Are you where you thought you'd be 5 years ago.

Awesome, there's nothing more to it...

"I have a really conventional life: husband, two kids, house in the suburbs, government job. I love it, but it's not unusual. Last week I did something very out of the ordinary (for me): I took a solo vacation to Puerto Rico. I took this picture with the intention of hanging it at my desk, a reminder of the tropical breezes on my toes."

Cool for School

"This is the first day of school, waiting for the bus, all in new, shiny shoes!  This is the first day of 3rd grade for my baby (he's the one in the COOL  Vans.) I always cry on the first day of school." - Alexandra

Championy!

To me, Megan is a photographic champ! She entered pictures into the unedited category of a competition themed Red Red Red. Because of the skill she had her unedited pictures were mistaken as edited by the photoshop lovers. Being a great photographer means knowing your camera and it's abilties. Anyone can edit pictures to look amazing but to take a picture that's amazing without spiffying it up on a computer is extra special. Her talent wasn't properly recognised that night but I fully expect her to show them what's what in the future! That's why she's one of my Gypsies!

"your not hardcore unless you live hardcore"

Hey there...I am so pleased I ran across your blog! What a spledid project!
This picture didn't make it onto the post it belonged on because I didn't think anyone would appreciate it but me (maybe it will find a home with Gypsy Feet)...

The pitter patter of little princess feet.

Granddaughters with new princess shoes...simply said...MAGICAL!

-Diana

And these little piggies went on a cruise!

These are my feet, no shoes but with a fresh pedicure. I am sitting at the back of a cruise ship heading to the Caribbean islands in December for a much needed vacation. This was my favorite spot on the ship, it was at the very back in the adults only section. I spent hours here on the thickly padded chairs with a good book and a waiter to keep the diet coke coming.

Snow Show Barbeque.

I don't like snow.

But when I see a patch that has been untouched by human foot I can't help but want to be the first to crunch it, and make my mark in it.

Like my low budget movie shows. I love that crunching noise. It's just wonderful. Thanks Salt Lake City for snowing while I was walking to the swimming pool.

Thank you Golden Uggs that look like Iron Man boots that keep my feet as cosy as a sheep.

Encouragement

"6 months ago I was in love with the idea of a new me.
More structure.
More goals.
More progress.
More self encouragment.
Now those shoes go empty too often.
As does my stability.
I need to remember...
The structure.
The goals.
The progress.
The encouragement.
It's not just for me.
It's for my family."

The Rainbow Connection

"Who said that every wish would be heard and answered
when wished on the morning star?
Somebody thought of that
and someone believed it,
and look what it's done so far.
What's so amazing that keeps us stargazing?
And what do we think we might see?
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
the lovers, the dreamers and me..."

Found it!

Jesus.

One of my favourite things about visiting Salt Lake City is the random graffiti.

My second time coming to this city was when I was technically moving here temporarily. I knew no one and I was pitching up for seven weeks, on my own. I ended up living with an old German Nazi – in his attic. Because I was using public transport I met a lot of interesting characters, one of which said to me, 'Welcome to the only theocracy in the United States.'

This is an interesting city, with a lot of interesting foundations, opinions, precepts and development. Unsurprisingly the oxymoron of religious graffiti is prevalent.

I enjoy finding this stencil sprayed on the pavements in random locations. I think because there's no Christian denomination attached to it. It could have been a Baptist, a Catholic, a Protestant, a Presbyterian or, in fact, a Mormon, that did this, I enjoy the mystery.

Remember, trust Jesus.

It Dawned on us...

"It's so nice once you get home to be able to relive your view just from a photo."

"My feet... they take me wherever I go."

"Everywhere I go, I take pictures of my feet. I thought people would think that I was weird, but then I saw your blog and I knew that I was just normal." — Breanne

It's not true, Breanne. You're more than just normal. You're one of us now!

Natural sassiness:

"For a little 15 month old to pull off these sassy over sized shoes and pose is a wonder. I bought them because of the $4.38 price tag stuck to it. Couldn't resist...so of course...she had to show them off for mommy...even if it is a little Too soon. :0)"

Fiji Time

This is probably the most peaceful place on Earth, certainly that I've ever visited. It couldn't be any further from my life here (literally, being almost antipodal to Scotland!). Someday I'll go back...

My Little Secret

She painted my toes about a month ago and this is how they look now. I have to be careful who's around when I take my socks off!

Tootsies in Thailand.

"The nail salon in Phuket, Thailand smelled of acetone and cat urine.

For $5 I got pink toes and a kitty in my lap."

Ariel's Legs:

"My daughter started taking pictures of her feet several years ago. It drove me crazy because I didn't want pictures of feet, I wanted faces. On August 1, 2005 Ariel was riding on a SeaDoo, holding an inner tube, when she slipped off and was dragged by the tube's rope that was wrapped around her calf. The resulting injury was devastating. She nearly lost her leg, had 9 surgeries including a muscle transfer and two skin grafts. She needed many months of physical therapy and missed over half of her freshman year of high school. Now she is about to graduate--on time. Since then she has continued to take her crazy feet photos and now we love them--they are a reminder of how she and her leg survived!"

A simple equation:

four best friends...
three new babies this year (and one three year old)...
first girls trip as a group of moms...
must celebrate with pedicures.
-Lisa

We jumped into an unreliable car and drove it to its grave. What happened to our adventurous sides? Carol the car, it was one thing to leave you dead and alone in a barren desert. The price for adventure has become significantly higher.

Twinkle Toes:

"I saw your blog from c jane and realized I have the perfect picture
for you! It is me and my girls feet, this past summer, in our silver
sandals. I realized we all similar shoes on ...and took the pic. I
always loved it! I blog too, so if you would like you can check my
blog out. I am a labor and delivery nurse--so mostly *stories from the
floor* and some personal stuff. I am heading back to look at your blog
some more now...let me know if you like the pic!"

- Jenna

We love the pic ;)

8 minutes in heaven:

"January 2009, Gold Canyon, AZ

While waiting for my husband in the store, I realized I had my camera with me (not unusual).  With the 8 minutes he was in the store feeling like 80, I started clicking away.  Since I really do love my feet, the subject matter was obvious."

Irresistible Toes:

"My son is obsessed with my toes!  Always has admired their beautiful shape, and beautiful shine... what can I say he has good taste? :) It wasn't til recently when we were having a lazy snowy morning here in Rexburg, Idaho that I realized he thought they were pretty scrumdidillyumptous (sp? :) too. He went to town on them, Good thing I had my camera handy as always.

Now some people might think I am a bad mom, letting your baby suck on your germ infested toes... Come on I hadn't been outside in days, and well lets be honest, you think they look a little lickable yourself too :)"

As lonely as I felt today, I cannot refute that I am loved, and my children are loved.

A true gypsy.

"These feet have been to all seven continents but here they are in pure relaxation mode."

My feet belong to Tony Bennett.

"i think your blog is pretty neat. it reminded me of this picture from
2007. i guess it would be considered gypsy foot. anyway, i thought
it was kind of cool. i was walking along an over pass in calgary,
alberta to see tony bennett perform. i'm 30-years old, living in
charlotte, nc...and i love tony bennett."

Picture this. You're on a date. It's sort of a group date, but you are definitely paired off into couples, and you're with a really gorgeous guy that you barely know. You're walking down the street discussing heaven knows what when your date says, "I hate girls who wear high-heals. They're so pretentious." You look down at your 4 inch heals (that make you feel like a goddess) and surmise that either...

1. He has zero tact, zero boyfriend potential, and he doesn't like you.
2. You must be really steady on those shoes, good for you, and he can't even tell you're not 5 foot 10.

I'm afraid the former is correct. You can either...

A. Politely continue your date and then ignore his phone calls, if he even bothers.
B. Throw your heals at his head.
C. Lie. Say you don't even like wearing heals then marry the guy and be really short in all of your wedding photos, all because you're a people pleaser, and he's cute.

"If you have children who are grown and gone, in all likelihood you have occasionally felt pangs of loss and the recognition that you didn’t appreciate that time of life as much as you should have. Of course, there is no going back, but only forward. Rather than dwelling on the past, we should make the most of today, of the here and now, doing all we can to provide pleasant memories for the future.
If you are still in the process of raising children, be aware that the tiny fingerprints that show up on almost every newly cleaned surface, the toys scattered about the house, the piles and piles of laundry to be tackled will disappear all too soon and that you will—to your surprise—miss them profoundly."
-Thomas S. Monson

Mother Daughter Love:

"I just happened upon your website today and I am so excited! Feet pictures! I thought that I was weird that one of my favorite pictures of my two daughters and I were ones of our feet. (For the record I am NOT one of those...well....you know freaky feet fetish people)  It is just that this picture just sums up our lives. Even though my daughters are 22 and 16 they still like to sit on my lap from time to time.  Sometimes it is for a hug, sometimes it is probably to just squishingly annoy me and sometimes I think it is to make sure that they have my undivided attention.  If one of them sees the other on my lap it makes them feel that they need it more than their sister and hence there is sometimes two on my lap at a time. I snapped a picture one day when they were both in need of a little tlc. It is one of my treasured photos. I was going to post it on my own blog but after seeing your blog I think that it belongs with others of it's kind. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do."
